100th session of ACP nominates new Secretary General
Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, is on a mission representing the Government of Seychelles and Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam, at the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.
The 100 th session of the ACP Council of Ministers unanimously adopted the recommendation of the ACP Bureau to appoint Dr. Patrick Ignatius Gomes as the new Secretary General of the organisation. Dr. Gomes, currently Ambassador of Guyana to the EU in Brussels, succeeds Mr. Mohamed Mumuni (Ghana) as the new Secretary General with effect from 1st March 2015.
Ambassador Barry Faure noted, “Dr Gomes has in-depth knowledge of the ACP, access to a vast network of agents and partners in Europe and in the ACP, as well as, a successful track record in international development policy. Dr. Gomes’ array of skills will no doubt contribute to the positive development of Africa and Small Island Developing States, especially at such a very important moment for the ACP. ”
Seychelles stood in for the substantive member (the Republic of Kenya) representing the East African region on the Bureau that recommended Dr. Gomes.» All news
