Seychelles represented at technical committee of the joint commission of the extended continental shelf with Mauritius

A delegation from Seychelles led by Mr Raymond Chang-Tave of the Ministry of Land Use and Housing, represented Seychelles at the Ninth meeting of the Mauritius-Seychelles Technical committee of the joint commission of the extended Continental Shelf (ECS) which took place in Mauritius from 16th to 17th September 2014, followed by the fifth Joint Commissioner Meeting held on the 18th September. The Mauritian delegation was led by Ambassador J Koonjul of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade

Discussions were held on the draft strategic plan for the Joint Management Area (JMA) administered by both countries as a first of its kind initiative. The draft plan encompasses ecosystem based management of resources as well as the sustainable use of such resources. The timeframe for the plan is 3 years and is aiming to accelerate investment opportunities in the area.

The committee was also briefed on guidelines for seismic surveys and the progress on the development of a website for the joint management area. The committee also endorsed documents for the first Ministerial Council that is due to take place in the final quarter of 2014 in Seychelles. The documents are; Fiscal and Taxation Code, Model Petroleum Agreement, the Environment Code and the Ministerial Declaration

The committee also met with the United Nations Development Program Country Resident Representative, Mr Simon Springett to discuss details concerning a project proposal on ecosystem management in the extended continental shelf (ECS).

The Seychelles was represented by the Ministry of Land Use and Housing, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ministry of Finance, Trade and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attorney General’s office, PetroSeychelles, Seychelles Investment Board, and legal consul.
