Seychelles-Tanzania relations: Accreditation of High Commissioner Claude Morel

17.07.2014

“Relations between Seychelles and Tanzania are bound to be diversified and strengthened in the future”. This comment was made by Mr Claude Morel after being received by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Jakaya Kikwete, at State House, Dar es Salaam, on Tuesday 15th July when he presented his Letters of Credentials as Seychelles’ High Commissioner.

Seychelles and Tanzania have enjoyed long-standing and fraternal relations over the past decades. The exchange between the Seychellois diplomatic envoy and the Tanzanian Head of State focussed on the desire of consolidating the strong foundations of bilateral relations that already exist between the two countries. Of particular interest, mention was made of the pursuit of collaboration in tapping the potential of developing meaningful trade opportunities with the advent of shipping and air links; of the linkages in tourism with the promotion of the respective countries as two-centre destinations; of jointly addressing the emerging challenges faced with maritime security in the Indian Ocean region; and of the mutual wish of concluding negotiations on the delimitation of maritime boundaries.

From the international perspective, the two countries converge in many aspects in the promotion and defence of common ideals and aspirations via the platforms of SADC, the African Union, the Commonwealth and the United Nations. Seychelles and Tanzania pledge to continue working in unison at both the regional and global levels in realization of their quest of maximizing the benefits of globalisation for the betterment of their respective countries and peoples.

President Kikwete was the Guest of Honour during the commemoration of the Seychelles National Day in June 2011.

Mrs Marievonne Pool is the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Tanzania.
