Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs reaffirms historical ties with signing of General Cooperation Agreement
Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Amina Mohamed is in Seychelles on a three-day official visit where she will call upon President James Michel and meet with other members in Government and key stakeholders.
This morning at a signing ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Mohamed signed a General Cooperation agreement with the Government of Seychelles, providing the necessary framework for a joint commission. This will further extend the sphere for cooperation between Seychelles and Kenya.
Minister for foreign Affairs Minister Jean Paul Adam viewed the signing as an important step in the deepening of relations between the two countries, which share close historical ties.
Minister Adam noted that Kenya and Seychelles close friends, in close proximity with boundless opportunities for collaboration. Minister Adam stated, “Seychelles and Kenya are oceanic states vowing to work together to securitise our maritime spaces, build partnerships and explore joint venture opportunities in fisheries and marine resources whilst taking charge of destinies in the ocean through the Blue Economy concept ”
Both Seychelles and Kenya rely on tourism and its sustainable development. As such, Minister Adam commended Kenya on its support of Seychelles elaborating an African brand of Tourism, which will empower all Africans within the tourism services sector.
“Seychelles has expressed solidarity with Kenya as it faces the on-going threat of Al Shabab and we are together in this fight to ensure the security of all our citizens,” said Minister Adam.
