21.11.2020

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism would like to confirm that the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure has officially tendered his resignation, effective December 1, 2020.

Ambassador Faure’s last official day in office was Thursday 19 November. He will be on official leave until the end of November, which will mark the end of his tenure in office.

Over the years, Ambassador Faure has held several senior posts in government, but he is most remembered for the many years in the diplomatic service.

He began his career in diplomacy in 1992, when he was appointed First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1993.  He then moved on to other responsibilities in government and returned to diplomacy in 2006, when he was appointed Seychelles’ Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union with concurrent accreditations to the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Andorra.

This was followed by his appointment as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in 2012, a post that he has held to date.

In his address to the Diplomatic Corps last Thursday, President Wavel Ramkalawan thanked Ambassador Faure, with whom he had served in the National Assembly between 1993 and 2002, for his dedicated service to our country and wished him and his family well in their future endeavours.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, has said that he was sorry to see the departure of Ambassador Faure and that the Seychelles diplomatic service would be the poorer for it. He said that he however understood the reasons behind Ambassador Faure’s resignation.

On behalf of the Ministry, Minister Radegonde thanked Ambassador Faure for his invaluable contribution to the Seychelles’ diplomatic service and to the country, and wished him all the very best as he starts a new chapter in his life.
