Accreditation of New Non-Resident High Commissioner to Mozambique

26.02.2013

Mr Claude Morel has presented his Letters of Credentials to President Armando Emilio Guebuza be as the non-resident High Commissioner of Seychelles to Mozambique in a ceremony held in Maputo on 14th February.

During the discussions held, High Commissioner Morel conveyed President Michel’s appreciation for the exemplary leadership President Guebuza has been providing to SADC since assuming the chair of the regional organization in August of 2012.

The exchange of views focussed on the dynamics of regional integration, the upcoming SADC Council of Ministers early next month in Maputo, as well as the mediation efforts under way to resolve the political crisis in Madagascar and the holding of transparent, fair and credible presidential, legislative and local elections in that sister island country during the course of this year as outlined by the SADC road map.

President Guebuza was informed of the decision of the Indian Ocean Commission to establish a Liaison Office in Tananarive to accompany the on-going electoral process. It should be recalled that earlier this year the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that High Commissioner Morel is to be stationed at this office for the duration of the elections. That office will operate in close collaboration with the SADC officials already on the ground there.

Speaking on his visit to Mozambique, the High Commissioner expressed his optimism for the future bilateral relations between the two countries, which he said will receive a boost with the signing of two agreements: one on double taxation avoidance, and the other on cooperation in the field of tourism in the near future.

High Commissioner Claude Morel is currently based in the Seychelles High Commisison in Pretoria, South Africa.
