Accreditation of Seychelles Ambassador Derick Ally to the Kingdom of Norway
The new Seychelles Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway, Ambassador Derick Ally, presented his credentials to His Majesty King Harald V at The Royal Palace in Oslo, Norway on Thursday 28 November 2019.
During the audience with King Harald, Ambassador Ally conveyed the greetings of President Danny Faure and the people of Seychelles to His Majesty and the people of Norway and expressed Seychelles’ appreciation for the assistance that Norway has provided to Seychelles in many areas over the years. They discussed various aspects of Seychelles’ socio-economic development and particularly Seychelles’ efforts in climate change mitigation. The King drew parallels between Seychelles and Norway in this area and also in the area of social protection.
Ambassador Ally also held meetings with senior officials at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry where he outlined the challenges and vulnerabilities of small island states and the constant need for capacity building in numerous fields. Norway is a country that tops many lists in the Human Development Index and Seychelles is keen to learn from its experiences in these fields. The Norwegian officials indicated that they would welcome further discussions on the possibility of welcoming officials and technicians from Seychelles to Norway to learn from their experiences in areas such as renewable energy, the Blue Economy, anti-corruption, fisheries, civil aviation, maritime security and surveillance, among others.
Ambassador Ally also met with the President of the Consular Corps of Norway who also chairs the Trade and Economic Development Committee of the World Federation of Consuls. They discussed investment possibilities in Seychelles, tourism promotion and, economic and cultural exchanges and agreed that these are greatly facilitated by Honorary Consuls on the ground. Seychelles is currently in the process of identifying potential candidates as Honorary Consuls in Norway which will further boost relations between the two countries.» All news
