The High Commissioner of India, H.E. General Dalbir Singh Suhag and Secretary of State of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, along with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seychelles Land Transport Agency, Mr. Parinda Herath, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in respect of the Indian grant assistance under ‘High Impact Community Development Projects’. The overarching MOU for the implementation of these High Impact Community Projects was signed under the 1st State Visit of the President of Seychelles, Mr. Danny Faure to India in June 2018.

The MoU signed today specifically addresses a request from the Government of Seychelles to India seeking assistance for the “Grand Riviere Project”.

The project involves the construction of a new access road to Grand Riviere, a community in the district of Anse Royale, to which the Indian government is providing a grant of SCR 5.28 million.

“I have given priority to this particular project which has been fast tracked and is in addition to the Phase 1 identified projects”, says High Commissioner Dalbir Singh Suhag.

The High Commissioner further clarified that access to these homes is currently through a footpath and “this new road will benefit a community of 13 households directly in the Phase -1 of the High Impact Community Development Projects and indirectly benefit another 22 households once the Phase-II is completed and will provide motorized access to all”.

Mr. Herath who represents the implementing agency for this project expressed “I am first of all grateful to the high commissioner and the Indian government for this donation towards this community project, which will facilitate movement of a huge community in the district of Anse Royale”.

Following the signing of the MoU, the project will now be tendered and implemented within the next few months.
