SEYCHELLES AND ILO SIGNS THE SEYCHELLES DECENT WORK COUNTRY PROGRAMME
Seychelles in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) officially signed the Seychelles Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) 2011-2015 during a ceremony held on Monday 28th November 2011 at 4p.m at the School of Education Auditorium, Mont-Fleuri.
The Seychelles DWCP forms part of the continued technical cooperation programme between Seychelles and the ILO.
The Minister for Education, Employment and Human Resources, Mrs Macsuzy Mondon signed the five year Programme on behalf of the Government of Seychelles and the ILO Regional Director for Africa, Mr Charles Dan who will be on an official mission to Seychelles will sign on behalf of the Director General of the ILO.
A second signing also took place between the Principal Secretary for Employment, Mrs Marina Confait; representative from the Employers’ organization, Mr Gilbert Sultan-Beaudouin and representative from the Workers’ organization and Mr Antoine Robinson, to ensure commitment of the ILO tripartite constituents towards the implementation of the Seychelles DWCP.
Decent Work Country Programmes are an ILO initiative which extend technical support to member states in a results-based framework to achieve the Decent Work Agenda set by the ILO for the global work community.
The Seychelles DWCP will address three priorities in the area of employment and labour, which are Review labour legislation and the dispute resolution framework; Promotion of quality employment and reduction of unemployment particularly for women and youth; promotion of effective tripartism and social dialogue.
The main benefits of the Programme for Seychelles are to create a modernized and balanced employment legislation, to ensure decent work for all workers in Seychelles and to strengthen social dialogue with employers and workers’ organizations.
During his mission in Seychelles the ILO Regional Director for Africa, Mr Charles Dan also made courtesy calls to the Vice President’s Office and to the Office of Minister for Education, Employment and Human Resources.» All news
