REMARKS BY MR DANNY FAURE, MINISTER DESIGNATE AND MINISTER OF FINANCE OF THE REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES, AT THE FIRST TURKEY-AFRICA COOPERATION SUMMIT HELD IN ISTANBUL ON 20TH AUGUST 2008.
Ladies and Gentlemen
Allow me, on behalf of my delegation, to convey our heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of Turkey for their warm hospitality in this beautiful country, rich in cultures and civilizations.
It is a great honour for me to address this First Turkey Africa Cooperation Summit which is a testimony of the commitment of the Turkish Government to continue contributing towards the socio economic development of Africa.
We congratulate the Turkish authorities under the leadership of H.E. President Gul for such initiative.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The African continent has experienced sustained economic growth in the past years.
It is becoming a rising power and consolidating its place in the World.
It is a widespread expectation that, in the period ahead and in a very near future, Africa's destiny is bound to change.
The African countries are indeed delighted by Turkey's determination to improve and develop its political, economic and cultural interaction with the continent and thus to become one of the leaders in North- South Cooperation, and among leading donors in the world.
The various initiatives taken by the Turkish Government, its observer status at the AU and being the 25th non-regional member of ADB, prove its willingness to cement these ties of friendship and partnership with the continent.
We congratulate you for that.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a widely shared view that promotion of peace, security and stability is a prerequisite for development and prosperity.
We all know, the world is now confronting new challenges.
The global food and energy crisis, climate change and terrorism have now become serious threats to the stability and the development of the whole world and require a true multilateral approach and co-operation between the North and the South.
It is our mission to remain alive to the challenges and opportunities that are provided by the globalization processes, which necessitate the adoption of dynamic foreign policies, to build strong partnerships and true solidarity to overcome the problems.
It is thus proper and fitting that we use this historic Summit to establish a comprehensive framework to govern the partnership that is anchored in the fundamental principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit.
This Summit gives us hope.
And if we want to keep hope alive, we have the collective responsibility to ensure that.
We should ensure that the achievements of this Summit galvanize and accelerate growth and stability on the continent and further enhance cooperation between Turkey and Africa.
We fully support the Istanbul Declaration on Africa Turkey Partnership.
I wish to take the opportunity to extend invitations to Turkish investors and entrepreneurs to eventually take part in the process and explore all possibilities so that the present situation where the trade volume between the two countries as well as the number of Turkish tourists to Seychelles can be changed.
To conclude, I wish to reiterate the Seychelles Government's interest in elevating the level of our cooperation with Turkey and African countries.
I wish the Summit all the success.
Thank you» All speeches
