On the occasion of the inauguration of roof top solar panels in the Barbarons social housing units.

The Indian High Commissioner, H.E. General Dalbir Singh Suhag and the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Wallace Cosgrow attended today the inauguration of the roof top solar panels in the 22 Barbarons social housing units. This project falls under the Indian government’s grant assistance of USD 3.44 million for solar project in Seychelles.

“I am particularly honoured to take this opportunity to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of Indian Nation, Mahatma Ghandi, who was a pioneer of environment friendly living and global sustainability” stated the High Commissioner.

“And today we are here on the occasion of the inauguration of the roof top solar panels which have been installed in all the units. Once fully commissioned by PUC, these units will jointly produce 90MW over a period of one year, thereby providing an annual saving of SCR135,000, apart from the positive effects of pollution-free power generation” added High Commissioner Dalbit Singh Suhag.

On his part, the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Minister Wallace Cosgrow added “we thank the the Indian government for this fully funded project, and we are pleased that so many families will benefit from the reduced cost of electricity with the use of these panels in their housing units.”

Also present at this event were Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Mrs. Pamela Charlette and other high ranking government officials.
