Representative from the World Health Organization presents Letter of Credence to Vice President Meriton

Victoria, Seychelles: The new representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) to Seychelles presented her Letter of Credence to Vice President of Seychelles and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vincent Meriton. Formerly a WHO liaison officer, Dr. Tenin Gakuruh recognized that Seychelles has achieved much with regards to its socio-development, parallel to the country’s graduation to high-income status. She reassured the Vice President that the WHO is aware of the specific needs of SIDS (Small Island Developing States) in health matters and pledged the support of the WHO in assisting Seychelles achieve the health-related SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Vice President Meriton expressed his gratitude to the WHO for their continued support to Seychelles, particularly in assisting the Ministry of Health to identify and address Seychelles’ principal priority areas, namely; communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as the reinforcement of the country’s public health capacities.

The accreditation of Dr. Gakuruh is a positive step in furthering the cooperation and operations between the Ministry of Health in Seychelles and the WHO.
