Indo-Seychelles relations
This was announced by the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, H.E. Arun Kumar Goel, during a reception on Friday January 26 (evening) to mark the 58th Anniversary of India’s Republic Day. “It is India’s endeavour, as an off-shore IT leader, to transfer our experience to Seychelles,” Mr Goel said. The High Commissioner said that “by March this year, we are expecting the commissioning of Pan African E-network in Seychelles, with tele-medicine facility in Victoria Hospital, tele-education facility in Mont Fleuri institutional complex,” among other developments. “When these two facilities start functioning properly,
Seychelles will leapfrog into the realm of opportunities
that will unfold before this young nation of achievers,”
said Mr Goel. He remarked that India has never allowed a smaller country to feel small, and has always extended her arm of friendship to Seychelles, which continues to be one of its important partners. Speaking on behalf of the Seychelles’ government at the reception, which took place at the Coral Strand Hotel, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Patrick Pillay, reiterated the excellent bilateral relationship between Seychelles and India, noting that it has already been 30 years since the two countries first established diplomatic relations. He said the State visit of President James Michel to India in 2005 is proof of “how the two countries are interacting at the highest of level”. Mr Pillay added that President Michel’s visit to India was a “historical occasion for renewal of friendship based on political commitment”. Among guests present at the reception on Friday were some government ministers, former President James Mancham, Chief Justice Vivekanand Alleear, the Leader of the Opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan, members of the diplomatic corps and various MNAs.
